Mortgage Broker Christchurch
First homes, new builds, and refinancing for Christchurch, Selwyn, and Waimakariri.
Mortgage advice for Christchurch and the towns around it
Much of the lending we see from Christchurch is outside the CBD. Rolleston, Rangiora, and Halswell are where first-home buyers and families are making offers. A new house in Selwyn is a different application from an older place in Riccarton, or from a property that still carries a land or foundation history.
Appointments are by video with an adviser from our Paraparaumu team. We are FMA licensed (FSP665511). There is no upfront fee for mortgage advice — the lender pays a commission on settlement — and we compare 16+ lenders rather than sending every application to the same bank.
Bring the insurance quote if you already have one. On some Christchurch properties the annual premium changes what you can comfortably repay. That number belongs in the first meeting, not at settlement.
A new build is its own timeline
Buying off the plan, or a house still under construction in Rolleston or Rangiora, needs a lender that will fund a build and a settlement date that matches the builder. Progress payments, a sunset clause, and what happens if the finish date moves are part of the lending conversation.
A completed house on a standard section is more straightforward. If the property has a recorded land or foundation issue, tell us at the start. Lenders treat that differently from a standard house, and it belongs in the conversation before you offer.
Refinancing a Christchurch loan
Start about 90 days before the fixed rate ends. That is enough time to compare staying with your bank against a move, including any break cost or legal fee. Two weeks out is late.
If the original loan was taken out for a rebuild or a new build, bring the current loan statement and the insurance. The structure that made sense then is not always the structure that is cheapest now.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do you help with new builds in Rolleston or Rangiora?
- Yes. Off-the-plan and construction lending is a different timeline from buying a finished house. We line the lender up with the build, not just the purchase price.
- How do Christchurch appointments work?
- By video, with an adviser from our Paraparaumu team. You do not need to travel to the Kapiti Coast for the meeting.
- Can you refinance a Christchurch mortgage?
- Yes. The useful time to start is about 90 days before the fixed rate ends, so a break cost or a legal fee can be compared properly.
- What if the section has a known land or foundation issue?
- Tell us at the first meeting. Some lenders will consider that property and some will not. It is better to know before an offer goes in.
- Is the First Home Grant still available in Christchurch?
- No. It closed on 22 May 2024. KiwiSaver can still be withdrawn for a first home you will live in, if you have been a member for at least three years.
